I’m thrilled to join the faculty this year at Portland State University as Acting Head of Percussion Studies, during the sabbatical leave of Dr. Joel Bluestone.  Looking forward to a wonderful year with the studio at PSU!

songbirdsongs and Percussion Clinic at OCA

Thanks to Terry Longshore for inviting me to join Caballito Negro for a performance of John Luther Adams’ songbirdsongs at the Oregon Center for the Arts!  It was also a pleasure to spend some time presenting a percussion clinic for students at Southern Oregon University during my time in Ashland!

Contralto

Thanks to Third Angle New Music for inviting me to perform this powerful new work by Sarah Hennies as part of the Portland Institute for Contemporary Art “Time Based Art” Festival.  This was a real transformational experience, and I’m fortunate to have been a part of it!

International Percussion Institute 2018

What a privilege to serve as a faculty member of the International Percussion Institute in Aberdeen, Scotland again this year!  The institute continues to grow and has become an amazing opportunity to share of ideas, performances, collaborate with colleagues, and experience other cultures first-hand.  I’m already looking forward to next time!

Oregon Coast Music Festival 2018

It was a great week of concerts in Coos Bay, OR at the Oregon Coast Music Festival!  Some great repertoire at this year’s festival and I was happy to be a part of it!

Portland Summer Percussion Academy 2018

We had another amazing week of learning, performing and FUN at the 2018 Portland Summer Percussion Academy!  It’s a blast to co-host this camp each year with my PPG partner-in-crime Brett Paschal.  What a wonderful experience for everyone involved!

Makrokosmos Project 4

It was a pleasure to join DUO Stephanie (Ho) and Saar (Ahuvia) for another Makrokosmos Project, this time performing the music of John Cage (Branches) and George Crumb (Music for a Summer Evening).   The entire event was incredible, and what an honor to share the stage with this lineup of brilliant musicians!

2018 Northwest Percussion Festival

Having performed at the Northwest Percussion Festival during my undergraduate studies, and more recently as a director of a participating ensemble, it was a real honor to co-host the this year’s event with my Portland Percussion Group partner Paul Owen.  What a wonderful, invigorating and exhausting experience over the course of three days.  Special thanks to Nancy Zeltsman for her contributions to the festival as Guest Artist this year (not to mention her performance with the WOU/WU Percussion Ensembles!), to Colin Currie for spending some time with us during his extremely busy concerto schedule with the Oregon Symphony, the students from WOU and Willamette University for their dedication to organizing and performing wonderfully at this year’s event, and to directors and performers from 13 university programs spanning Oregon, Washington, Idaho and California for their inspired performances!

A huge thanks as well to Dave Gerhart and Josh Prewett of Yamaha, along with Vic Firth, Remo, Zildjian, Black Swamp Percussion, Pearl/Adams, Encore, and the Percussive Arts Society for their contributions to this year’s NWPF!

WOU Percussion Festival

We had a fantastic day at Western Oregon University hosting middle and high school percussion ensembles from Oregon and Washington!  Thanks to Professor Jonathan Ovalle of the University of Michigan for serving as the Guest Clinician for the day, the students of the WOU Percussion Ensemble for their hard work, and to the participating ensembles!
